This month’s cover story features Donelle Dadigan. As president and founder of the Hollywood Museum, chair of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and co-founder of the José Iturbi Foundation, Miss “D.D.” Dadigan is one of the most influential women in Hollywood. She also is the goddaughter of famous classical pianist and conductor José Iturbi. Through her museum of film memorabilia, her foundation for encouraging young classical pianists and singers, and her work with the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Donelle is keeping Hollywood’s golden past alive to inspire the next generation of performers and audiences. Speaking of Hollywood history, SOHM is continuing to highlight past Golden Globe Ambassadors, formerly called Miss (or Mr.) Golden Globe. The title “Miss Golden Globe” was created in 1963 to honor up-and-coming actresses, who would help preside over the awards ceremony. Since 1971, the honorees have been the children of stars. In SOHM’s last issue, we covered the two 1963 honorees, Eva Six and Donna Douglas. In this issue, we are continuing with the next two honorees, Linda Evans (1964) and Gila Golan (1965), who both have fascinating stories. Miss Evans started studying drama at fourteen to overcome her shyness and became the leading lady in one of the most popular 1980s nighttime soap operas, Dynasty. Gila Golan went from a Polish World War II foundling with no family and no name to Miss Israel in 1960, eventually acting on film and television in the 1960s. Returning to current affairs, not all artists are dormant during the lockdown. While theaters are closed, the Martha Graham Dance Company has stayed busy by partnering with the Soraya at Cal State Fullerton and the Wild-Up chamber music group to create a reimagined version of Martha Graham’s Immediate Tragedy from 1937. Originally inspired by the Spanish Civil War, this contemporary dance was rechoreographed by Janet Eilber of the Martha Graham Dance Company and the fourteen dancers who performed it to reflect our country’s current “immediate tragedy.” Read about the tenacity, research, and technology which allowed these twenty-two artists to create and perform this world premiere virtually on June 19, 2020, all in separate locations. Also in this issue is a feature on the lockdown’s positive aspects which the Kramer family have discovered. Karen Sharpe-Kramer, actress, producer, and widow of Golden Era film mogul Stanley Kramer, and her two daughters, Kat and Jennifer, have been very productive while staying at their Los Angeles home. In addition to learning to work better together, they have enjoyed special bonding time. Perhaps you too have experienced unexpected benefits from the lockdown. We encourage you to reflect on good things about the past few months and ponder how you can cherish a deeper appreciation for family, friends, and life’s simple pleasures for the rest of your life! We also are bidding two wonderful lights in the entertainment industry farewell in this issue, Bonnie Pointer, singer, songwriter, and founding member of the Pointer Sisters, and Irene Soderberg, a dynamic performer and “fairy godmother” who raised millions for charities. Although their time on this earth has ended, their talent, vivacious personality, and incomparable artistic output live on! We encourage you to “Let them be your motivation.” About SOHM Shine on Hollywood Magazine was founded in July 2012 and is considered one of the top entertainment, popular culture and lifestyle magazines in Hollywood.
